After an initial solar delivery in 2018, Terra Spirits & Liqueurs decided to develop their solar array further in 2020. With this extended installation, they also won an SEAI Energy Award in 2020 for their exceptional efforts. Commercial solar PV was a perfect solution for Terra given that production in the factory is during the daylight hours and perfectly matches up with solar production. As well as that, the available roof space meant that no new construction was needed on-site and the effective roof-space was now fully utilised towards producing clean, renewable electricity.
Based in Ashbourne, Co Meath, Tayto's factory comprises of almost two acres of high quality machinery, systems and processes managed by a team of seasoned professionals – all dedicated to making the best tasting snacks possible.
Terra Spirits & Liqueurs could save around €40,000 per year on electricity costs by using this solar power system instead of purchasing electricity from the grid.
This system generates around 277,71kWh/yr of electricity annually.
By using this system Terra Spirits & Liqueurs can reduce emissions by approximately 70 tonnes (or 70,761kg/yr) of CO2 per year.
The estimated yearly output of this system is equivalent to the energy needed to power around 65 homes in Ireland for a year.
This system has a carbon impact equivalent to planting around 3,220 mature trees per year.
