Drax Power supplies gas and electricity to more than 360,000 businesses throughout the UK. The company provides 100% renewable energy as standard, as well as an array of additional energy services. It serves small and medium sized businesses, as well as organisations in the retail industry, the government sector, and housing associations.
Drax Power also has access to Britain’s biggest renewable power station, where biomass renewable electricity is generated by its parent company Drax. As the UK’s largest provider of green electricity and renewable energies, Drax Group felt it was only right to incorporate this green ethos into its both downstream companies: Drax Power & Haven Power. Subsequently, both companies approached Low Carbon Energy to deliver solar at both of their head offices.
After an initial site visit, we analysed the needs of Drax Power to formulate a unique energy profile, which we then used as the basis for its bespoke solar PV installation.
The final result is a 198kWp solar PV installation, complete with 694 x 285w Hanwha Qcells Modules. This means that Drax Power can now benefit from 187,880kWh per annum of clean on-site generated electricity, along with a levelled cost of electricity of £0.03/kWh.
It also allows Opus save 23,409kg of CO₂ emissions per annum, bringing the business a significant step closer to achieving its sustainable business goals while simultaneously serving as a valuable demonstration of its Corporate Social Responsibility.
Opus Energy could save around 34 000 £ per year on electricity costs by using this solar system instead of purchasing electricity from the grid.
This system generates around 170 000 kWh/yr of electricity annually.
