About the Project

For over 40 years Coach House has imported and sold captivating design-led furniture and homewares throughout the UK and further afield. Having begun from humble origins in Yorkshire, they have grown to become one of the industry’s largest and most trusted trade-only names, and are still a proud family-run business.

Project Overview

The client approached Low Carbon with the aim of reducing their carbon footprint as much as possible. The team at Low Carbon reviewed the consumption data and used it to design a bespoke system specifically geared towards achieving Coach House’s current requirements, as well as their future ambitions to be as independent as they can of the National Grid.

Since Coach House is closed at the weekends, we also had to account for the fact that the client would be sending a significant amount of electricity back to the National Grid on Saturdays and Sundays. To deal with this, the Low Carbon team liaised with the District Network Operator to ensure that the Grid would be capable of handling the large influxes of electricity that the system would be generating on weekends. This enables Coach House to sell the generated electricity, exporting it to the National Grid and earning additional revenues from their system.

With all this in mind, we provided Coach House with the following PV system:

The whole design process with Low Carbon was very easy for us as a business. They didn’t try and oversell us anything – they only sold us what we needed to achieve our goals, and it came across like that. I think it helps that they’re a family-run business as well, as it’s a very personal service. I do think that business owners have an obligation to stop and think about their impact on the planet. The fact that our system will ultimately pay for itself provides us with a very clear Return on Investment, and I hope that it becomes the norm. The technology is there – I think people just need to see it and invest in it.
